Harry Potter

Harry Potter

Of Course...

When I was 18ish, and on vacation with my family, we listened to an audio book.  Driving hours and hours was always great with a book.  This was the first Harry Potter book.  This was the beginning.  I have since read all of the books, at least twice, and watched all the movies, at least ... well, a lot.  During the pandemic, my 12 yr old son is starting the series over again.  I think this is his 3rd, or maybe 4th time.  We love these stories.  It is a bit like a lot of girls' stories of rags to riches.  But this is a story about a boy overcoming those awkward teen years with amazing friends and some very peculiar situations.

The Now Habit

The Now Habit
Neil Fiore, Ph.D.

This book has really been an inspiration to me.  I work hard. I am productive.  I also overthink and worry I wont get things right.  So I put them off.  I procrastinate because I want to do a good job.  I procrastinate because I don't want others to think badly of me.   This book outlines all the different reasons why we procrastinate.  It explains how to overcome each issue that I have.  Dr. Fiore has described, in such simple terms, how I can improve.  I am now taking the information and moving forward.  I am going to go and do.  I am not going to worry about what others think.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

This is childrens book with a slight hint of Toy Story.  The main character of the story is a toy rabbit who is passed from one hand to another.  He describes his emotions as odd sensations and tries to understand what is happening in his internal struggle to know himself.  This would be a great bedtime story for older children.

Rabid written by Bill Wasik and Monica Murphy is an insightful read.  I am always interested in learning about history and how it has affected us now.  Rabid describes the earliest mentions of rabies in historical reports and how it was treated in those times.  Since rabies has a 99.9% fatality rate once symptoms appear, none of treatments then or now were affective in curing those infected.  It is quite interesting to learn of the transfer of fear that now embodies so many of our horror novels.  Vampires and wear-wolves to name a few got their origin from the rabid animals that passed the virus on to their human companions.  The book is a bit dry at times, but so much of it is full of well written information that makes you eager to continue.👍
